Backstage at Luleåkalaset 2011

Yesterday I was working backstage at LuleåKalaset as a personal wardrobe assistant to Tom Jones and his band. This year LuleåKalaset 2011 was in the north harbour in central Luleå.

Tom Jones, at age 71, still rocks! What a show, women threw their panties up on stage and screaming! Some of them hit the guards in front of the stage. Sorry to disappoint you but I didn´t manage to get a picture of that. 😉

His latest album Praise & Blame has received great reviews. Is it his best album ever? I know someone who says that it might be. Tom Jones has released a lot of albums since his first, 1964. For those of you that don’t know much about Tom Jones I give you some short facts: Sir Thomas John Woodward, is born 7 June 1940, and he is known by his stage name Tom Jones. He is a Welsh singer. Since the mid 1960s, Jones has been singing many styles of popular music – pop, rock, R & B, show tunes, country, dance, techno, soul and gospel.

Last night he sang “Chills and Fever,” that was released in late 1964 and didn’t chart, and the follow-up, “It’s Not Unusual” that became an international hit.

I think he sounds even better today than when he started his music career. The night was filled with songs like “Delilah”, “Green, green grass of home”, “It’s Not Unusual”, “What good am I”, “Burning Hell”, “She’s a lady” , “What’s New Pussycat” and “Kiss”.

What´s amazing is his long music career ( 47 years), his talent and his voice that remains stronger than ever. I have to admit that I´m truly impressed and humbled at the same time. He is a true living legend.

Tom Jones has gotten a lot of negative press due to the fact that he has let his hair stay the natural colour. I think the grey does fit better than ever with his latest record that is truly honest and natural.

Some pics from last night… sorry for the quality, it was dark and I was using my IPhone.
